With Spiral contraceptives, Uterus Cancer Patients Can Have a Baby

Madrid, cervical cancer patients will usually get a verdict difficult to have children especially when her uterus was removed. But now with a treatment that uses KB spiral, the sufferer may become pregnant. Why is that?
This treatment is carried out by experts after seeing how the KB spiral or Intra Uterine Device (IUD). KB spiral works by releasing hormones that prevent the occurrence of pembuahaan until a certain period.
Well, how to work like this is used for cancer therapy. IUD that is placed directly drug is released in the endometrial lining so it does not swallow oral medications such as blood coming first.
"If given the IUD, drug levels in the blood is not too high so that the side effects are minimal," said Dr Lucas Minig from Madrid Sanchinarro University who led the study, as quoted from Dailymail, Friday (01/10/2010).
In the pilot, Dr Minig involving 39 women aged 20 to 40 years. All the participants are patients with early-stage cervical cancer.
Each fitted with an IUD that releases certain hormones like progesterone. The hormone works to inhibit cancer growth.
Participants also receive regular monthly injections containing other hormones to inhibit the production of estrogen. In women, estrogen is a hormone that can spur the growth of endometrial cancer.
During observations, the cancer did not grow until the IUD removed 1 year later. All participants involved in the study were healthy and successful life to have children but still have to undergo removal of the uterus after childbirth.
"We think this is suitable for young patients who do not want to have children, but do not want to lose the opportunity to have kids someday," added Dr Minig.
