Jakarta, genetic or hereditary factors is one risk factor for cancer. But if you have a family history of cancer does not mean you'll get cancer, too, because 90 percent of cancers are caused by environmental rather than genetic.
It should be noted that genetic factors are not the direct cause of disease. Genetic factors on cancer disease transmitted from generation to generation. Thus, the reduced genetic risk factor, not directly to the cancer disease.
"Genetic factors in cancer affects only 5-10 percent only. That is, 90 percent more cancers caused by environmental factors and living habits," said Dr. Ronald A. Hukom, MHSc, SpPD-KHOM, Disease Specialist Doctors
In, Consultant Cancer and Blood Disorders of Dharmais Cancer Hospital in Jakarta, in Layman's Colorectal Cancer Seminar at Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta on Friday (01/10/2010).
According to Dr. Ronald, genetic factors usually occur in certain cancers, like breast cancer, ovarian cancer (ovarian), prostate cancer and colorectal cancer (colon).

Genetics expert, Dr. Teguh Haryo Saso, PhD, Expert in Human Molecular Genetics Genome Center, School of Medical Sciences, University Sains Malaysia in the Health Consultation in detikHealth tell if someone has a genetic risk factor for certain cancers, so it has a higher susceptibility than others to suffer from cancer.
"Genetic risk factors can not be changed (at least for now). However, genetic risk factors only one of various other risk factors, such as environment and lifestyle," said Dr. Teguh.
Other risk factors is that of course can be controlled. Prevention of cancer is typically the control of environmental factors and lifestyle, that is by implementing a healthy lifestyle such as diet and physical activity.
